THE CAICOS CHALLENGE
This will be Mario’s first and most exciting expedition in the Turks and Caicos Islands, his birth country and place he calls home.
The Caicos Challenge is a gruelling 6-day expedition that covers all seven of the Turks & Caicos’ main islands. The entire challenge will be done solo using only human-powered propulsion, which includes; swimming, biking, kayaking, diving, running and hiking.
The Turks and Caicos environment has a stunning array of terrain that changes from island to island allowing Mario to uniquely showcase each, as he traverses them via bike, kayak, running, hiking and swimming. This challenge will captivate a new audience of explorers as Mario moves across the ocean to new landscapes all while highlighting eco-adventuring as one of the best kept secrets and features of the islands.
Throughout the expedition challenge Mario will give back to his home community by both raising awareness of sustainability and supporting the youth through fundraising and education.
Following some incredible exploration challenges around the globe, Mario feels it’s time to return home and take on his greatest challenge yet by traversing the Turks and Caicos islands while showcasing the beauty that rests within these diverse landscapes. This is the perfect opportunity to spotlight the importance of maintaining the precious natural resources of his home. Focusing on the marine environment with its spectacular coral reef system and shining a light on local organizations implementing successful eco initiatives. Additionally Mario would like to help push the drive towards self-sustainability by educating the youth throughout the islands and providing them with the resources to start tackling these issues as a community.
Mario’s message of a sustainable future for all started in Turks and Caicos and has taken him around the world. He has addressed global climate change issues at the United Nations and continues to use his platform to educate and promote sustainable and responsible travel and lifestyle choices.
The decisions we make will ultimately affect life on earth, which affect us. This expedition will showcase life in Turks.
As Mario traverses the Turks & Caicos he will explore how climate change has affected this region.
In order to continue living in this gem of a nation we must learn to live sustainably.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY challenge
Join Mario's global community and take up your very own 2021 fitness challenge!
Be a part of a community of adventure seekers and fitness enthusiasts who are pushing the limits of what is physically possible as you run, swim, walk or hike alongside Mario this April. This event is open to everyone through the Strava app and you will be able to join Mario virtually and match your fitness efforts with him during his 6 day challenge. For example, while Mario runs the full length of Providenciales you will be able to match his steps. We will have virtual trails that mirror the route of the Caicos Challenge, showing the stats for each leg in distance, steps and time allotted.
You can also match or follow Mario's fitness efforts as he trains, leading up to the Caicos Challenge expedition starting in February. Will you join Mario and take up our own 2021 fitness challenge?
The Strava app dashboard would track their progress and also include updated notifications of Mario’s progress. The ability to visually compare their own progress compared to Mario, being an added level of interactivity. They could complete a leg before or during Mario in real-time, either by hitting the step goal or the distance (whether that means running up and down their stairs or hitting a local park) for a real sense of personal achievement.
Real-time notifications from Mario’s solo expedition will increase community engagement and add a sense of live competition as will the opportunity to add their name and stats to an app leaderboard, also shared across Mario’s website and social media updates. As legs of the challenge are completed, points will be allotted. Each leg of the challenge will be launched at the same time as Mario starts his, with a countdown notification from the app. These legs will remain open for anyone who wants to take part in the challenge, even if they don’t start on day one.
In addition, for those who are able, there could be an ‘Elite Level’ to the app for athletes who want to complete the legs using the same 6 disciplines of the challenge, matching or surpassing Mario’s efforts in their own back yard.
Other than the incentive of beating Mario’s times or distance, there could be prizes of various fitness trackers for the top 10 winners of each leaderboard.
